His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit Buffalo, New York. He will give a series of lectures at the University at Buffalo, September 19-23, 2006.

A number of various cultural events will take place in Buffalo before the visit of His Holiness. These are meant to bring into the consciousness of the average Americans a glimpse of the tragic life that the Tibetans have had for more than 50 years under the occupation of the communist China.

In September, 2006 the Museum of European Art in Clarence, New York (www.meaus.com) will present a large exhibition of photographs by the American photographer Douglas Herman about the life of Tibetans in exile in India. Also shown will be photographs from Dharamsala, the town in India which has become the home in exile of the Dalai Lama and many of his followers. Here are a few basic facts:

Tibet has been occupied by China for 53 years.

More than 17% of Tibetans were killed by the Chinese.

Over 6,000 monasteries were destroyed by the China.

This genocide by China continues even in 2006, as Tibetans continue to be persecuted and replaced by massive numbers of Chinese immigrants to Lhasa and elsewhere in Tibet.

The Tibetans appeal to the world community for help: 'Give us genuine self rule autonomy !!'

The upcoming film festival TIBET IN BUFFALO, sponsored by the University at Buffalo, will show different aspect of the life and culture of the Tibetans, about their life in Tibet under the Chinese occupation, their life in exile and their continuing struggle to regain their freedom.
